IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Welcome to grade 6. We are looking forward to a year of not only hard work, but one where we shall work together with you, to nurture and develop your child into the best he/she can be.

To avoid any misunderstandings and pre-conceived ideas, we would like to draw your attention to the following before the parent information evening, which is Tuesday, 25 January, starting at 19:00 in the school hall.

Expectations from the educators

We would like to have an open channel of communication between you, your child and us, so that we can work together as an effective team. Please use the homework diary to make appointments to see the class teacher whenever needed. We aim to be consistent with our discipline and expect the learners to be responsible for their own actions and behaviour. The class teacher will contact you if any problem arises. Please contact the class teacher, if you have any concerns about your child. Cutting, snide comments between teacher and parents in the homework diary must be avoided at all times.

Dress Code

We expect learners to take pride in their school. The correct uniform must be worn. No hair is allowed to be coloured and we expect learners to be neat and tidy at all times, whenever they have their sport or school uniform on. Each learner has a timetable, so they know when they have Phys Ed. Phys Ed Clothes may only be worn on Phys Ed days. It is their responsibility to bring their appropriate clothes to sport, so please don’t run after your child. On civvies days, we expect the learners to be appropriately dressed, where no body parts are exposed (no strappy tops and mini skirts).

Homework

Please refrain from doing your child’s homework, you passed grade 6 a long time ago. Homework diaries must be signed and checked daily by a parent or guardian. Reading should be done daily for approximately 20 minutes before bed. Tables and bonds should be revised daily for about 15 minutes. Homework should take an hour to one and a half hours most days. Orals and research for projects will be given in advance, so that information can be found on the internet or in the library. Learners will be informed in advance about tests, projects and orals so that they can prepare for them. Projects will be done at school so that the teacher can monitor that the work is done by the learner. If your child is experiencing problems with his/her homework, set up an appointment with the teacher as soon as possible.

Outings

You will be notified of all outings in advance. No money is sent to school for any outing, the amount will be added to your school account. The Grade 6 camp to Bergkroon (Wellington) will be from 19 - 21 April. All other monies sent to school, must be sent in a clearly marked envelope with the learner's name and what the money is for (e.g. Sam Sax 6CM:R75,00 For Campout).

DAT/Extra Lessons

Learners who are struggling with Reading, Spelling, Comprehension or Mathematics will receive assistance in a small group situation. DAT will be done on a Tuesday or Thursday morning at 07:30. We offer extra Afrikaans and extra Mathematics, which are menu items and done in the afternoon. The class teacher will contact you, if your child requires either of these.

We are a dynamic group of grade 6 educators, who are interested in the development of the learners at Kenridge. We are here to serve you, and look forward to your continuous support and encouragement. Please feel free to chat to us about your ideas and concerns.

BELANGRIKE INLIGTING

Welkom in graad ses.

Uitstappies
